Like I mentioned before, I won't be able to attend AnimeFest, but I will be at San Japan! If you're interested in a shoot, please message me, and I can send more info.

I also have a Facebook page now if you'd like to follow it to get the latest updates on which convention I'll be at and to see my latest photos :)
I just realized I'm behind on adding photos to my DA! I'll work on uploading some photos from last year and earlier this year soon. My Flickr and photography portfolio are always up to date though, if you'd like to check out my latest photos.

I was at A-kon recently as well, and it was really fun! My convention photos are in this Flickr album. You'll notice a lot of One Piece photos because I debuted my Tashigi (One Piece) cosplay there and went to the meet-ups :) I had a photoshoot done in that cosplay, so I'll post photos once I get them back. In the mean time, my cosplay blog has full details on how I made it!

Now for upcoming plans...

AnimeFest - I will not be at AnimeFest this year, which is sad because I really like that one. (On the bright side, I'm missing it because I'll be in Japan, which I'm excited to be visiting again.)

San Japan - I should be going to San Japan and doing photoshoots as usual. If you're interested, let me know, and I'll put you on a list to contact when I have my schedule figured out.

Ikkicon - I will probably be at Ikkicon, but it's too early to tell. I will have a better idea a month or two before.

And that's it from me! I'm not very good at being active on DA, but I update my Flickr and Instagram more when it comes to photography and cosplay stuff :)
WHOOPS, with the holiday craziness, I totally forgot about Ikkicon. I will be at Ikkicon on Saturday, Jan 2 and have 4 photoshoot spots open.

If you’re still looking for a photographer and are interested, please message me, and I will send more info!

My photos from past Ikkicons: 2015 | 2013
  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?
6 years apparently! I didn't realize it's been that long. I think I didn't use this account that much (or at all) when I first signed up.

  2. What does your username mean?
I use "puyoda" on most social media I'm on. When I made the name, I was playing the game, Puyo Puyo DA, at the time, so it's based off of that.

  3. Describe yourself in three words.
    Photography loving programmer

  4. Are you left or right handed?
    Right

  5. What was your first deviation?
    My Neku costume!

    In this together by puyoda

  6. What is your favourite type of art to create?
Photographs. I used to draw and paint a lot, but now I mainly focus on photography.

  7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Digital art. I wish I knew how to use my tablet better :(

  8. What was your first favourite?
A piece by an online friend!

wish you were here by twentyhours

  9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
    Cosplay or photography.

  10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
Aahhh, this is hard. I don't know if I can name an "all-time" favorite. I currently love looking at vaxzone's cosplay photography, and Ryoko-demon is an amazing cosplayer.

  11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
There's so many cosplayers I would like to meet and photograph XD

  12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
I've been inspired by many works I've seen! It's helped me improve and evolve my style as a photographer.

  13. What are your preferred tools to create art?
When it comes to photography, my Canon 6D. My current favorite lens on it are the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 and the Canon 24-70mm f/4 L.

  14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
My sewing room for when I'm working on cosplays. It's my favorite room in the house because it's one that I can truly call MINE. For photography, any place with beautiful scenery.

  15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
My first time advertising photoshoot spots at an Anime con. I met new people through it who I still photograph, and I actually filled all my spots!

I've realized that I haven't posted my con schedule for this year yet! A-kon is coming up, and I've actually decided to skip it this time. My interns start shortly before the con, and I'd rather not take days off during the period when they need the most help.

But! I currently plan on going to the following:

San Japan
(San Antonio, Jul 31-Aug 2)

AnimeFest
(Dallas, Sept 4-7)

Ikkicon
(Austin, Jan 1-3)

I plan on doing photoshoots at each one. As usual, if you contact me early, I'll put you on a list, and then get back to you once I have my schedule figured out :)

I'm also open to doing photoshoots in Austin outside of conventions. You just need to contact me, and we'll work it out from there.

In the mean time, I have a bunch of photos from London and Japan that I haven't posted here yet, so I guess I should work on that!
November was pretty busy for me! I wasn't really home for half of it. First, I was in Japan for 2 weeks, which was amazing. I'm slowly posting photos on my Flickr and food tumblr.

I also cosplayed while I was there! I couldn't pass up the chance to wear a The World Ends With You costume in Shibuya, which is where the game actually takes place. Though I cosplayed as Neku a long time ago, I decided to make a new Rhyme costume instead. Her outfit is warmer for the autumn weather XD;;

I was out of town again for the Thanksgiving break and just got back, so I'll be putting together an Ikkicon schedule soon.

Oh, and this is how I book spots for people who contact me early. This is actually how I’ve always done it, but I’ve never written it down so I think it caused some confusion.

1. If someone expresses interest in a photoshoot spot before I have a schedule up, I put their name down on a list.

2. Once I have the schedule ready, I go down the list one by one. I message the very first person who contacted me and ask them which spot they’d like.

3. Then I continue down the list after I get a response. (So the first person who asked gets first pick, the second gets second pick, and so on.)

4. After I’ve contacted everyone on the list, I make the schedule public if there’s any remaining spots. (Sometimes there are no spots left though.)

If you already told me you’re interested in a spot, and I’ve also replied to you, then no worries! I will definitely be messaging you back! You don’t have to worry about possibly missing a spot because you weren’t checking deviantart or tumblr that day. Hopefully this makes sense and is fair to everyone :)

For samples of my work, here are photos I took at last year’s Ikkicon!
A-kon
I was at A-kon earlier this month! I was Sakura (Street Fighter) on Friday and Haku (Spirited Away) on Saturday. We were the ones that had a Haku, Chihiro, and No Face group :) We did a shoot with aragashi again, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turned out!

I didn't take as many photos this time, but here's my gallery. If you see yourself, let me know, and I'll add you to the photo description!

London
I just got back from a business trip in London, and I took... too many photos, haha. I'm trying to go through them and post them before San Japan comes up.

San Japan
Speaking of, I will be doing photoshoots at San Japan as usual! I'm a bit late on getting my schedule together due to being in London, so I'll work on that tonight. If you already contacted me, no worries, you are already on my list, and I'll contact you back for a specific time slot.

If anyone else is interested, please feel free to contact me :) San Japan is one of the ones I book up quickly and don't post a public schedule for (due to people contacting me ahead of time). I'm only there on Saturday and will try to open up as many spots as I can!
Not set in stone yet! I normally don't make a decision until a couple months before the con XD;; Before I go into my plans, I have a couple announcements.

1. To any cosplayers living in or near Austin, I am available for photoshoots outside of cons as long as it's in Austin. Feel free to contact me if you're interested. The info is the same as what I post for convention photoshoots (except the meeting up part is different): cat-chu.com/photos/photoshoot_…

2. Sadly, I've removed Anime Matsuri from this year's plans. It's earlier than usual this year and during a time when I'm busy with other things =/

And now for this year's plans...

A-kon - Dallas - June 6-8
I'm most likely cosplaying with friends for A-kon, so I won't be scheduling photoshoots.

San Japan - San Antonio - July 18-21
I should be scheduling photoshoots as usual for San Japan.

AnimeFest - Dallas - Aug 15-18
I was pretty bored at last year's AnimeFest, and I haven't been happy with the direction it's taking. However, I'd still like to go to see friends, so I might open up photoshoot spots for one of the days.

Ikkicon- Austin
No dates posted for this yet, but since it's a local con, I will most likely go and schedule photoshoots.

Hope to see some of you guys around! :)
Another Ikkicon has come and gone! Thanks to all who booked photoshoots with me :) I have contacted each of you already, either through messaging or email. There is a preview from each shoot up on my Flickr:
www.flickr.com/photos/puyoda/s…

I got to use new photography gear during Ikkicon too :D Earlier this month, I upgraded to a Canon 6D, and I'm now using my Sigma 50mm f/1.4 more (which didn't get much use before on my Canon 50D). I'm happy with the results from those!

With the new year around the corner, I decided to make a few cosplay New Years resolutions:

1. Post more photos
I should get in the habit of posting more. In the past, I picked only a few favorites from each photoshoot to post, so I'm going to post more, both of my own costumes and of the photoshoots I do. I might even go back to past costumes and photoshoots, so if you see older photos being posted, that's why. I will try to post more in-progress photos as well.

2. Improve my cosplay photography
As I browse other cosplay photos, I've realized things that I could improve. I'm already changing up my post processing a bit in the Ikkicon photos, and in future photoshoots, I will try to improve my photo composition too.

3. Finish at least 3 cosplays
I don't finish many a year! I just don't work on them enough :( In 2013, I finished exactly 3, so let's hope I can do the same, if not more, in 2014.

Have a happy new year everyone!
Info on Ikkicon photoshoots is now up! Please view here, which also has the available time slots:

Message me if interested or if you have any questions :3

Edit: All spots are now filled. Thanks everyone!
I will be doing photoshoots at Ikkicon though... I don't have my schedule figured out yet! I was on vacation the past two weeks and now Thanksgiving craziness is coming up.

After Thanksgiving, I'll figure out my time slots. Since Ikkicon is local for me, I should be able to do two days (Fri and Sat).

If you've already asked me about an Ikkicon photoshoot, then no worries! I will be getting back to you once I figure out my schedule. If you haven't yet and are interested, please go ahead and message me about it :)

Photoshoot samples: on Flickr or Deviantart
AnimeFest is done! My photos are here:
Let me know if you see yourself, and I can add you to the photo's description :3

A few people have already asked me about photoshoots at Ikkicon, so I'm trying to figure out if I can make it. That con is always at an inconvenient time of the year for me >.< I live in Austin though, so I should be able to stop by and do a few shoots. I will have everything figured out by November!
Another San Japan is done! Unfortunately, I didn't take many photos outside of photoshoots, but there are some on my Flickr:

I also posted a preview from each photoshoot already. As usual, I work on them in the order that I took them that day. Expect to see more photos as I finish each one, and thanks to everyone who did a photoshoot with me! I had a fun time!

Next up for me is AnimeFest, and I will be cosplaying to this one. I should be in my Zia (Bastion) costume again :) I'll be there Friday-Sunday, though I'm only cosplaying on Saturday. Say hi if you see me! XD
San Japan is this week! I will be there Saturday to do a few photoshoots. All spots are taken already, sorry!

The next con after that is AnimeFest, and I should be cosplaying to that one :) I'm not sure what I'm wearing yet. Due to being busy at work, I haven't really been able to work on anything new. I might just wear my Zia (Bastion) costume again. We'll see later I guess!

Hope to see some of you at both cons!
First off, photos! Here are ones I took on Friday and Saturday: www.flickr.com/photos/puyoda/s…

My friend and I cosplayed as Zia and Zulf from Bastion part of Friday and all of Saturday. We did a photoshoot with aragashi, and I'm looking forward to seeing the photos from it :D

Some brief, overall thoughts on A-kon this year:

* The new location is beautiful and lighting was typically good indoors = good for photos.

* However, most things were on the first floor and the hotel is quite long. I felt like it took a longer time to get places because of how far you have to walk.

* I didn't attend many panels/events, but the ones I did go to started on time, so that's always good.

* Registration was frustrating. I normally go to A-kon without pre-registering and am usually able to get my badge in under an hour. This time it took 4 hours.

* Plus, artist alley, dealer's room, and registration in the same place with just one hallway to reach them? Yeahhhh, that probably wasn't the best idea.

Overall, I had fun. I think they have some kinks to work out, but that pretty much happens when you change locations I suppose.

Now for future plans!

San Japan: I plan on doing photoshoots, most likely on Saturday. A couple people have already messaged me about it, so feel free to contact me if you're interested as well :) I just won't know my schedule until the date gets closer.

AnimeFest: I plan on cosplaying to this one. My friends want to do a Street Fighter group, so I'm looking into re-doing my Sakura costume now!
I will be at A-kon on Friday and Saturday! I finished Bastion cosplays for my friend and I to wear to it:

Zia - completed by puyoda Zulf - completed by puyoda

We'll be wearing those on Saturday and maybe for a little bit on Friday. I might also bring another cosplay like Knives Chau or Sakura (Street Fighter), but I haven't really decided yet.

I will be bringing my DSLR and a couple lens, but no lighting equipment, so I'm not scheduling any full photoshoots this time. (The next con I'm scheduling photoshoots for is San Japan.) I still plan on taking lots of photos, and mini photoshoots are a possibility!

Hope to see some of you guys there!
First off, con photos are here: www.flickr.com/photos/puyoda/s…
If you see yourself, please let me know, and I can add your name to the photo description :)

Photoshoot previews will be posted here as I finish them: www.flickr.com/photos/puyoda/s…
(I will be adding them here on my deviantart as well.)

Thanks to all who did a photoshoot with me! I thought they went well, and you guys are awesome for being ready for them. No cancellations = a great day for me XD I can't wait to start posting more of those photos.

I work on the photos in the order that I took them, so an earlier photoshoot will get their photos sooner. I plan on having previews of the first set posted this weekend.

The next con that I plan on doing photoshoots at is San Japan in August. I do plan on going to A-kon and Animefest, though I hope to actually finish my costumes by then and be able to cosplay :) I um... guess I should be working on those more...

Anyway, it was great seeing everyone at Matsuri! Hope to see some of you at the next cons!
I am doing photoshoots at Anime Matsuri on Saturday! Read below for more info.

Date: Saturday, March 30

Time slots:

1:00PM: Taken!
2:00PM: Taken!
3:00PM: Taken!
4:00PM: Taken!

Edit: All slots filled faster than I expected! If you're still interested, we can probably meet up for a few quick shots instead of a full photoshoot. Message me to work something out :)

Photoshoot information

1. Photoshoots are free and typically last 30-45 min. They are open to small groups of 1-5 people per shoot.

2. New to photoshoots? No worries! I do my research and come prepared with photo and pose ideas. I do recommend coming with a few ideas yourself as well.

3. I will ask that we exchange cell phone numbers, which I will only use on the day of so that we can find each other. I will text the meeting location 5-10 min before your shoot. Please be ready, so that we can start on time!

How to sign up?

Simply message me here on deviantart or you can email me (form and email are on this page: catherine-chu.com/contact/)

Just let me know how many people, who you are cosplaying (series, character, and version if applicable), and which time you'd like.

Looking forward to working with you guys!
Unfortunately, I've realized that I can't finish our Bastion costumes in time for PAX East and Anime Matsuri, so I won't be cosplaying to those two.

I recently signed up for Instagram, though, to log my cosplay progress: instagram.com/puyoda
I also post my progress on my tumblr: puyoda.tumblr.com/

What this means...

PAX East: I won't be cosplaying or doing photoshoots. (I'm not even bringing my DSLR.) I'll just be enjoying all the games  ^_^

Anime Matsuri: I'm switching to doing more photoshoots! I plan on opening 3-4 photoshoot slots on Saturday. These will all be free shoots.

If you're interested, then stay tuned! I will try to have a post about Anime Matsuri up later this week with available times.
Plans might change, but this is what I'm thinking of doing so far! I typically know my schedule and what I'm doing as the con gets closer. PAX East is the only one I have set in stone, since I had to register pretty early for it.

March: PAX East (Boston)
- Sat: cosplaying as Zia from Bastion

March: Anime Matsuri (Houston)
- Fri: possibly driving up earlier to do photoshoots
- Sat: Bastion cosplay group as Zia and Zulf

June: A-kon (Dallas)
- possible Street Fighter (Sakura, Juri, Ryu) and Spirited Away (Haku, Chihiro, No Face) cosplay groups
- will not be taking photoshoots

August: San Japan (San Antonio)
- Fri or Sat: will be doing photoshoots

September: AnimeFest (Dallas)
- same as A-kon

December: Ikkicon (Austin)
- Fri and/or Sat: will be doing photoshoots
